Rostrum

Among coleopters (weevils), the rostrum is a rigid extension of the head, in the shape of a snout, bearing mouthparts on its end. The rostrum often extends into a beak or sucker. Among species in the groups Heteroptera (bugs), Homoptera (cicadas, leafhoppers) and Diptera (mosquitoes), a rostrum is a mouthpart modified into a stylus. Synonyms: rostellum, proboscis.
