Anadromous

An anadromous fish lives in the sea but reproduces in freshwater rivers.

This is particularly the case of salmon, which swim up rivers to reproduce in their place of birth.

Anadromy requires significant physiological and behavioural changes for the organism to adapt as it alternates between the marine environment and the river environment, especially to the different osmolarity.
