Winter solstice

In the northern hemisphere, the winter solstice is the longest night (21st or 22nd December). In the southern hemisphere, the winter solstice is on 21st or 22nd June (the seasons are inverted).

On solstice days, the Sun passes vertically over one of the two tropics.
