Tail assembly

The tail assembly is specially designed to control the pitch and yaw of an aircraft in order to keep it stable in the air.

On a plane or a helicopter, the tail assembly is composed of a set of horizontal and vertical surfaces:
• the tailplane, or horizontal stabiliser on a helicopter, to ensure pitch stability (up and down movement);
• the rudder to ensure yaw stability (side to side movement).
