Exoplanet

These are planets that revolve, not around the Sun, but another star. They are sometimes called extrasolar planets.

The first extrasolar planet was discovered in 1995 at the observatory at Haute Provence, France (by Mayor and Queloz). By July 2012, 777 extrasolar planets were known.
