Walking bus

A walking bus, or pedestrian bus, is an alternative to a school bus that consists in escorting children on foot, accompanied by volunteer parents, between home and school.

Objectives of the walking bus

The walking bus concept covers several objectives:

• reduce motorised transport, and therefore the polluting emissions and the danger it generates around schools;
• create and encourage daily physical activity, which is beneficial for life hygiene;
• create socialisation time between children and adults from a neighbourhood;
• support the education and autonomy of young people regarding road safety and sharing the road.
