Newton

The newton is the legal (SI) unit of force (symbol: N).

Isaac Newton observed that the sum of the forces acting on an object is proportional to its mass and acceleration. This eminent scientist gave his name to the unit in the Système Internationale: 1 N is the force required to give a 1 kg object an acceleration of 1 m/s.
