Absorption spectrum

Physics An absorption spectrum is the spectrum obtained by passing an electromagnetic wave, and in particular of light, through a transparent or semi-transparent medium in which absorption weakens (or even extinguishes) the contributions of certain frequencies, giving characteristic spectral lines.
