Chlorinity

Chlorinity is a measurable magnitude related to salinity.

It expresses the mass of halides (bromides, iodides, fluorides...) in grames, in chloride equivalent, contained in a kilogramme of sea water.

To measure chlorinity, the quantity of silver needed to precipitate all of the halides present in 330 grames (approximately) of sea water is weighed.

Salinity is deduced from chlorinity since it is equivalent to:

1.805 * Chlorinity + 0.03
