Tibia
The tibia is a leg bone parallel to the fibula.
Location of the tibia
The tibia is located between the knee and the foot parallel and anterior to the fibula.
Structure of the tibia
The tibia is the second longest bone in the human skeleton after the femur. It is a long bone formed from two epiphyses and a diaphysis which is triangular in section. The proximal epiphysis articulates with the femur whereas the distal epiphysis lies on the talus, one of the ankle bones. It also forms the malleolus or the outgrowth of the internal side of the ankle.
Function of the tibia
The tibia links the femur with the ankle and therefore allows the movements required for walking.
