Systolic pressure

Unlike diastolic pressure, systolic pressure is the arterial blood pressure measured in systole, i.e. during the contraction phase of the heart.

It is the larger of the two measures taken when a doctor takes blood pressure. It should be less than 140 millimetres of mercury. If not, then there is hypertension.
