Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a deformity of the vertebral column.
Symptoms of scoliosis
Scoliosis may be identified from asymmetrical posture in children by the parents or school doctor. The vertebral column, is deformed in all three spatial planes (frontal, horizontal and sagittal) and may cause the hip or scapulum to protrude etc.
Causes of scoliosis
The scoliosis is usually idiopathic, i.e. it occurs during growth with no apparent cause. It also however has a genetic cause, the gene responsible for which has not yet been identified.
Treatments for scoliosis
The vertebral column deformity can be treated with :
- physiotherapy ;
- chiropraxy;
- wearing a corset ;
- and surgery.
