Ribavirin
Ribavirin is a nucleoside analogue of guanosine and is used in anti-viral treatments often in combination with other compounds.
It is mostly prescribed to treat thehepatitis C virus (HCV) and theRespiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV).
Its mechanism of action is still debated (direct or indirect) although ribavirin helps to reduce the amounts of viral RNA present.
Ribavirin also causes harmful side effects.
Ribavirin is similar to guanosine, a natural molecule produced by the body. DR Credits
