Metabolomics

The metabolomics are the set of metabolites found in a biological sample, together with their concentration. The word metabolomics is constructed in the same way as the words genome (the set of genes) or proteome (the set of proteins).

Contents of the metabolomics

The metabolomics contain a large number of very different molecules:

• intermediaries of metabolism (nucleotides, etc.) ;
• vitamins (vitamin C, vitamin D...) ;
• hormones (testosterone, progesterone, etc.) ;
• energy molecules (glucose, lipids, etc.)...

Analysis of the metabolomics

Analysis of the metabolomics is used to monitor patient good health. A large proportion of these metabolites can be accurately measured in a medical analytical laboratory.
