FSH
FSH hormone (follicle stimulating hormone) is a pituitary gonadotrophic hormone that stimulates the development and maturation of Graafian follicles in the ovary and spermatogenesis in men.
Synonym: follicostimulin
In men, this stimulates the activity of testicular Sertoli cells that produce the spermatozoa and are regulated by testosterone concentrations by negative feedback.
In women, it stimulates ovarian activity by inducing maturation of ovarian follicles to ovulation.
Ovulation is triggered by LH . FSH has a negative feedback cycle in woman, particularly in response to estrogens.
Measurement of FSH in urine is used to detect the menopause.
