Ecchymosis

An ecchymosis is the medical term for a « bruise ». It is usually caused by an impact, knock or fall. When an ecchymosis is found around the eye, the term « black eye » is used.

The ecchymosis generally changes colour over a week. Initially it is dark red and then turns purple and then black-blue before becoming yellow and disappearing.
