Antigen

The term antigen refers to any foreign substance in the body that can trigger an immune response intended to remove it.

They are usually proteins or peptides (fragments of proteins) which are specifically recognised by antibodies and also by specific blood cells, T8 lymphocytes. Antibodies are produced by B lymphocytes and their production is stimulated by T4 lymphocytes which act as the conductor for the immune system.
