Opt-out

Opt-out refers to the way internet users’ personal data are collected.

With opt-out, the agreement is implicit by default. The user has to check a box or select a drop-down menu to deny their permission. If they do not do this they are automatically placed on the mailing list when they register for an internet service. Permission will only be requested after the fact.

The opposite to this is opt-in.
