VOD

Video on demand is a service for ordering and watching video in real time on the internet. This type of broadcasting is based either on very high speed communications (e.g. optical fibre), or on streaming techniques.

Video on demand really took off in 2005. iTunes, which introduced a VOD offer, are said to have sold over a million videos in one year. In the UK there are several partners: BBC, ITV, BT, Sky, Channel 4, Channel 5, SeeSaw, S4C and MSN Video Player.

In the UK, video on demand is available on the internet, where services include the popular BBC iPlayer and various catch-up services.
