Trap

A trap is a stack of lava flows forming stepped cliffs. Examples: the Deccan Traps in India and those in Siberia.

The Cretaceous-Tertiary and Permian-Triassic extinctions coincide with trap formation. Some geophysicists such as Vincent Courtillot think there is a connection.
