Lithosphere

The lithosphere is the superficial part of the Earth and forms the "rigid plates" of "Plate tectonics". It is made up of two superimposed envelopes: the crust (oceanic or continental) and the rigid upper mantle. Its thickness is 60-70 km under the oceans and 100 km under the continents.
