Transgenesis

Transgenesis is a method used to introduce a foreign gene (transgene) into the genome of an organism to obtain a genetically modified organism. In order to be successful, transgenesis requires:
- the transgene to enter the target cells
- its incorporation into the genome
- its ability to express itself in cells (producing a protein)
- and finally, the ability to regenerate whole individuals from the genetically modified cells;.
