Meiosis

Meiosis is the successive divisions of a cell nucleus with only one DNA replication cycle leading to a reduction in the number of chromosomes by half. Meiosis allows the nucleus to pass from the diploid state to the haploid state during germ cell formation (gametes). It is one of the fundamental processes of sexual reproduction.
