Nucleophile

A nucleophile is a substance with an excess negative charge or a non-bonding electron pair. These substances can therefore participate in nucleophilic substitutions, for example. The greater the availability of an electron pair (and therefore not involved in mesomerism), the more nucleophilic a site is. Lewis bases are nucleophiles.
