Zooxanthella

Zooxanthella is a unicellular algae of the genus Symbiodinium, commensal with some molluscs, coral organisms and sponges. It is present in the superficial tissue (it is endosymbiotic) of its host, where it is able to receive light. It produces organic matter that benefits its host using photosynthesis.
