Banana season
Grown all over the world (India, Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia) the banana arrives on our markets during the winter, although it can be found year-round.
Nutritional value of bananas
This is the ideal fruit for athletes due to its high carbohydrate content, alongside high mineral concentrations (potassium, magnesium). In terms of energy, it has 90 kilocalories per 100 grammes.
Banana varieties
There are two types of bananas, banana fruit and plantain bananas (used as vegetables). Poyo and Cavendish varieties are two types of banana fruit. They are the most often long and yellow with brown spots, but there are also short and violet varieties.
Banana storage
Bananas do not withstand cold temperatures, especially when exposed to temperatures below 12°C. In cold temperatures it stops ripening and its skin quickly turns brown. Do not keep bananas in the refrigerator.
