Avocado
Avocado is one of the most calorie-rich fruits.
Avocado season
The avocado is mostly eaten in winter, between October and April, even though it can be found year-round.
Nutritional value of avocado
Often criticised for its high energy content (138 kilocalories per 100 grammes), theavocado is suitable for athletes and growing children due to its high vitamin content (B9, C, E). It contains unsaturated fatty acids (linoleic acid) which are very good for the cardiovascular system. It has a high mineral and trace element content.
Avocado varieties
Your greengrocer stocks two varieties: Hass avocados (hard, warty, green purplish skin) and Fuerte avocados (smooth, thin, matt green skin).
Choosing avocados
The colour of an avocado's skin does not indicate its ripeness. It is best to eat avocados once they become soft and their skin is easy to remove.
