The topoisomerases are enzymes which regulate the winding of DNA molecules.
The enzymes can cut one of the two strands of the DNA pair, cutting one strand and reconnecting the cut. This process adds or removes superturns to theDNA, an &nbsp important mechanism in genome replication during cell multiplication.
A lot of research is being carried out on these enzymes, as they are one of the important targets of the anticancer drugs.
