Smooth muscle

Smooth muscle are made up of single cell nuclei and contract involuntarily, unlike striated muscles.

Their function is to circulate substances in the body and they are found in the walls of the gastrointestinal tract (for peristalsis), arteries (to promote vasomotility), and also in the urinary and respiratory system to circulate urine and air.
