Cochlea

The cochlea is a hollow snail shaped organ filled with a liquid called endolymph. The cochlea is located in the inner ear and is the final stage of integrating sound before the auditory nerve.

The ciliated cells in the cochlea, stimulated by movement of endolymph, then excite the auditory nerve fibres.

Cochlear implants are available to replace a failing cochlea
